The newly formed Knox Concert Band follows on from the success of the now 7 year old Knox Wind Symphony.
This ensemble has been created to give performance opportunities to students, school leavers and the wider community who may not possess the ability or the desire to play at the level of the more advanced Knox Wind Symphony.
How long have we been rehearsing?
Rehearsals started in late 2024, working towards our first performance in November of 2024, as well as the 2025 National Band Competition. Now we are continuing to rehearse weekly, currently in preparation for the 2025 State Band Competition.
For rehearsal details please click here.
Be aware that due to events running at our usual rehearsal venue this year, there are some rehearsals that have been moved to alternate spaces. Due to this, we ask that you fill out the Expression of Interest form and have contact from a band manager with up-to-date information before attending a rehearsal.
What do we play?
Our musical director will always endeavour to select repertoire which is both challenging and entertaining for the musicians. No one likes to be bored. Our programs will be varied and contain music from movies and musicals, marches, hymns as well as music specifically composed for concert band.
What are we working towards?
After our fantastic performance at the National Band Championships this year, we are even more excited to continue developing the ensemble’s sound, as we work towards the 2025 State Band Competition as well as other community-based performances this year.
What is the State Band Championships?
The Victorian State Band Championships is an annual event run by the Victorian Band League. This year it will be happening in Bendigo, on the weekend of the 30th and 31st of August.
The State Band Championships is a prestigious competition open to Brass Bands, Concert Bands and Solo Instrumentalists. There are a number of divisions for each category to allow bands to perform at an appropriate level.
A test piece is selected by the organisers of the championships and then groups must select a hymn, march and another larger work of their own choice.
After our successful performance in C Grade at the National Band Championships in May of this year, we will be continuing to compete in this division.
